The inside and outside of a small structure can be enhanced in just as many ways as a large structure if applied to scale. Most of us will ever own the Malibu Beach house or the Swiss alpine chalet so we should work with what we CAN HAVE...Many times the envy of your trailer park might be even more personal reward than rubbing elbows with the tRump types that infest the habitats of the Reich and Famous....WE don't seem to compete in the Greed game so I believe fitting out OUR lives and forget about what we don't have control of works best. Blending your tastes to your neighborhood might be a requirement of your CC&R's or Park Rules but that does not limit what you can ask for a variance on. Who knows, maybe adding a balcony has never been submitted to the compliance committee, putting a French Nail Salon finger bowl sink in your powder room might not require ANY permission and just be something to convince your Mate you HAVE to have. Using designs/materials and Ideas from other types of housing that factories do not put on an assembly line does the work for MAJOR livability in your slice of life. Be BOLD and use Whimsy when you decide to join the revolt against the "little boxes" syndrome that dominates the USA. Add multi colored French Tiles to that back splash, Add a dormer skylight. Tear out that particle board kitchen and do a REAL WOOD or even a IKEA quick fix...Trust me, you only live a short time, leave a mark.... EVERY home(IMHO) deserves a powder room if there is ever the opposite sex present....Find a small closet and convert it, pay to have it converted as we are in the most amazing times where ANYTHING you can imagine is now online. I will be showing ideas and am by no means the sole voice in this charge(although I HAVE been trying since 1969 to effect some changes) you will have to sit pat with the paste that is squeezed from he tube of life or go ahead and bite off a chunk for yourself...I never regretted trying, just what I didn't try.... I am adding some medicine cabinets with amazing Leaded Glass work. This idea should be considered for more than just a medicine cabinet. I will be using it for the doors on any upper cabinet as well as for that specialty cabinet or closet....This is just a picture and in no way shows the beauty of the workmanship or depth of color or drama of the relief surface imparts to an area. Also a fold down bench/table to consider for "primitive look" areas . So fitting in Rustic Cowboy or Castle application. Using the fold down 12" to 16" surface allows instant countertop as well as guest seating in the tight floor plans Park Model RV's require. It gives a great deal of flexibility to use a room to it's fullest potential. The surface has a number of suspension options I.E.: For the Coastal look a Block and tackle, Chains for that Castle or Hacienda motif, Sainless Cable for that Industrial Loft, Rope will Lariat that bench for the Bunkhouse.
Keeping this site segmented in understandable pieces is very difficult. I would like to offer some Ideas on several new books I am writing. Waiting in the wings is a book on Art Deco/ Art Nouveau as applied o the Park Model 400 sqft format. Many of the ideas are interchangeable an relate well to small spaces.
Using this structure form is a good start. Some of the unseen structural changes besides the overall height reduced to 13'9" would be a gentle slope of the metal roof panels from the rounded front of the structure on the right to the squared off back. This allows TGI beams as roof supports and cuts costs as well as leaving a small parapet on three sides. The upper floor with the windows would of course be gone as well. The structural bump out would become a smaller window seat and depending on what effect I am designing be either a Castle motif or maybe a French style Metal sculpture.
This is a type of window seat will work in several applications but on this structure would bring out some whimsey and maybe some historical value celebrating the Art Nouveau period, a little too Baroque for Art Deco but will blend well on a smaller structure. Having a seat right at the end of the kitchen cabinets will allow a small intimate dining area for the two residents or single person without feeling out in the open, maybe overlooking a small garden or a partial view of a mountain. This would allow for a nice entry door that could have all sorts of possibilities.
Some very dramatic use of awning and ironwork with the full window copper door would be a real statement realizing you are not buying a bunch of them, only a few choice assets to create a one of a kind jewel, a set of french doors off the utility/half bath as well as a set from the master bedroom suite. I have some ideas about how I would do the French doors in both areas. There is many options but I am trying to create a home with many unique features to illustrate how even the working poor deserve a taste of the artistic riches that are lavished on the 1% over the centuries and what as workers who built it all for them, WE deserve.
The French doors from the utility/ half bath are only 48" wide so a small set would be required. s there is only a 25% surface area that can be glass all the natural light into small spaces is the most desired. Can you imagine a small juliet balcony overlooking that garden of Pansies or daffodils? These would be a great accent in their own right but as a package in a small home a defining element.
For the Master Bedroom I would have this type of French Door and expand the balcony to at least 6' from the door. This would also have an awning to cover the balcony area fully. Without a view property this awning covered balcony would be great place for a pot garden. If the Park Model is "pitted" and a walk out patio is the option that would make the awning even more useful.
There are many options for awning styles and a lot will depend on local as what is good for the sun belt may not work in the rain forests of the Olympic Peninsula.
As shown it would be a "Pitted" unit for private lots or a seniors park that allows permanent foundation or "pits" that the homes are backed into and landscaped. I would like to see more of the RV parks with sloped lots using this type of mobile as they would look amazing on a terraced sloping hillside. Maybe overlooking a Vinyard or Horse Corral. We spent some months at an RV park next to a Racehorse Training Paddock near Tiny Texas Houses and it seemed like a natural setting for this type of home.
